This Harvard Business Review article offers some useful tips on how to demonstrate your leadership capability before you get that promotion. There are ideas on how you can begin to act, think, and communicate. Thoughts include:
- deliver results in your current role
- raise your hand for new initiatives
- find role models
One of the suggestions is “to be cautious when sharing your ambitions”. I believe you should discuss your career goals with your manager. However use the opportunity to demonstrate your engagement with the organisation and how you would like to contribute further in the future rather than only focusing on what the organisation can do for you.
