In a world of increasing noise and distraction, setting goals and a clear plan to achieve them can be energising and allow you to focus your time and energy on important rather than urgent areas.
We know the most effective leaders are diligent and disciplined about setting priorities and laser focused about executing the plans to achieve them. So, step gently and purposely into the next 12 months, consider the healthy habits you want to build on and make time this week to reflect on 5 questions:
A critical part of successfully achieving your goals is finding time and making space for reflection, planning and action. Try to plan for less noise and clutter, by being in charge of your time, your calendar and investing time each week for reflection, for thinking and for planning. In addition, allocating time every week for yourself, for exercise, for relationships is important. If this is something you struggle with take a tough look at what gets in your way, what holds you back from doing this and consider what you can change. What things can you take out of your diary, delegate, give to others? What are the things that only you can do? Talk to your team about it and they can help you make the changes, block out time to not be disturbed and be brutal with meetings, make them 30 minutes not 60. Learning to lead with clarity, curiosity and focus is an important leadership skill that we can all improve with practice. When chaos ramps up, we need to listen closely, ask good questions, but stay focused and block out the noise. Set Your Goals Setting goals is an important first step in all our programs and our Set Your Goals cards are a popular tool to help participants articulate their priorities. They are practical, fun and easy-to-use, designed to help you think more strategically about your performance, career and life. We know that you are 40% more likely to achieve your goals if you write them down and this increases to 70% if you share your goals with someone to keep you accountable such as a mentor. Be bold, select 10 goals that are meaningful to you and then map out a plan to achieve them. Think about what you need to feel happy and successful? What’s holding you back? What’s the timeframe? Share the goals with us and your network to make them happen. |
