The power of connection.
Nearly 50 museum directors, leaders, and emerging talent came together to launch the Council of Australasian Museum Directors (CAMD) Executive Mentoring Program, a 10 month major initiative designed to accelerate leadership development and succession planning across our cultural institutions.
The program formally connects Directors and CEOs of museums with 25 talented senior managers for mentoring and will also include executive development workshops and events throughout the year. The goal: to strengthen leadership capability, foster strategic connections and support the long-term success of the sector.
“It’s an exciting succession planning initiative where we are accelerating the development and opportunities of the future leaders of our important institutions” said Lynley Crosswell, CAMD Chair and Director and CEO of Museums Victoria.
Led by the CAMD executives including Lynley Crosswell, Kim McKay AO, Australian Museum Director and CEO, Daryl Karp AM, Australian National Maritime Museum Director and CEO and Sara Quon, Sovereign Hill Museums Assoc CEO and designed and delivered by McCarthy Mentoring, this program builds on the success of CAMDs previous national mentoring initiative that helped shift the representation of women in museum directorships from 20% in 2015 to 50% this year.
“We’ve been so impressed with the calibre of this year’s participants already. This program will enable them to shift gears even further in terms of progression, performance and confidence to take risks and grab opportunities. We are proud to partner with CAMD to deliver this exciting strategic investment in the future of the museum sector,” said Sophie McCarthy.
