Sophie McCarthy is the Executive Director of McCarthy Mentoring. Sophie has overseen its growth and expansion into regional markets to meet the needs of global clients. She works closely with CEOs and HR Directors in diverse industries from oil to gas to mental health services to plan and deliver mentoring programs for their executive teams and future leaders. She has connected and managed hundreds of successful mentoring relationships, run mentoring and leadership workshops for some of Australia’s largest companies and is regularly invited to speak at conferences and events.
Outside of work she is a mother of three and a Director of Griffin Theatre Company in Darlinghurst, Sydney, the only theatre company dedicated to new Australian writing. Prior to this Sophie worked for a decade in communications and project management with the NSW Government, consulting firms and an overseas aid agency. Her first career was in research and policy in public health. She has research and published several reports including women’s leadership in science & engineering, executive mentoring in Australia, HIV testing and domestic violence and postnatal depression services for non English speaking women. She has a BA in Politics and History and a Masters in Public Health and was awarded a Vincent Fairfax Fellowship for ethics in leadership in 1997.
